I hear this question all the time from many business owners including those who have been trying to do it for years. 

It is not a secret. The online world is managed by specific rules. If in the past, some took profit of the early stages of the internet to be ranked quickly in the search engines, things are different today. 

Google keeps changing its algorithm and with the power of social media, especially Facebook, the way how to get customers online is different today.

I focus on Google and Facebook because these 2 companies dominate the digital space. According to Bloomberg, these 2 companies alone claim two third of the online advertising.
In short, if you can rank well with Google and Facebook, you’ll have an unlimited flow of leads that will be enough for the rest of your life.

But these companies set the rule today. The rule is very simple: Maximize the user experience.

Both Google and Facebook want the user to spend more time using their platform. So they put the contents – and of course the Ads – that are relevant to the user.

It is all about the user aka the customer. It is all about Your customer.

If you give exactly what you customer needs, both Google and Facebook will help you to put your offering in front of them.

The best way to know if your branding works is to know how much it is converting into sales. You may have the best website in the world or the best nicely crafted professional photos. But if your sales are weak then there is a problem in your branding. I am not saying in your brand. You may have a good brand but your branding, which is the way you convey your brand to your audience, is inefficient.

There is 5 step formula that you need follow:

1- Have a clarity about your brand

It is beyond the logo, the colors or the look of your website. These are important to build first impressions. But you need to be 110% clear about who you are as a brand, what are you offering and what you stand for.

2- Know your audience

May be I won’t be able to stress enough how important this step is. If there is anything that the online marketing provided better than any other time in the history it is laser targeting. You have today amazing possibilities to find your target audience. It is beyond simple demographics. It goes deeper to know exactly what they like, what they dislike, what they dream about and what makes them awake at night.

3- Build your authority online

People like to work with people they like, know or trust. Building the trust with your customers online is critically important. This will differentiate you from your competition. Building trust comes after building relationships and connections with your target audience. The best way to do it is by providing them with valuable content that is fulfilling their needs.

4- Craft Your Message

People have today a very short attention span online. Everyone looks for what is in it for him or her. If you understand well the problems and needs of your audience, you should be able to send them the messages that will attract their attention and will pull them to your offering. You have an unlimited ways to test what messages that convert better with your audience.

5- Have a Sales Funnel

Having a sales strategy online means knowing exactly how to move the cold audience to a warm audience (leads) and then to a hot audience (customers). We call this a sales funnel. You will need this to know how to communicate with them, when and what to sell them at each step of the process.
